14.detsembril 2016 toimus Anna Lindh Fondi Eesti võrgustiku järjekordne üritus avaliku loengu ja diskussiooni näol, mille teemaks oli “Missugusest kultuuriliselt keskkonnast tulevad Lähis-Ida pagulased? Vaade religiooni- ja islamiülesele käsitlusele”. Ettekandega esines Lähis-Ida ekspert prof. Egdunas Racius Leedust, Vytautas Magnuse Ülikoolist. Vestlus keskendus küsimustele: mida tähendab tänapäeval olla moslem Lähis-Idas ning kas kõiki Lähis-Idast saabuvaid põgenikke saab liigitada moslemiteks? Prof Racius valgustas kuulajaid Lähis-Ida mitmekesisest religioosseset ja kultuurilisest taustast ning nentis, et mittemoslemitest (ka mittekristlastest) rahvad ja hõimud on sageli keerulisemas ja haavatavamas positsioonis võrreldes traditsiooniliste rahvustega. Prof Raciuse kohaselt on pagulasi vastuvõtvates lääne ühiskondades domineerimas ulatuslik muslimofoobia – vaenulikkus moslemite suhtes just nende kultuurilise eitamise kaudu. Prof Raciuse arvates aitaks lääne ühiskondade suurem kultuuriline teadlikkus Lähis-Ida eluolust hõlpsamini toime tulla akuutsete immigratsiooni probleemidega.

Käesolev üritus oli järjekorras teine, mida EDK korrladas ALF Eesti juhtrolli raames.
